What is the difference between a qualified accountant, an accountant and a book keeper?
Any one can call themselves an accountant! Only accountants with a professional qualification, such as ACCA, CIMA or ACA, can legally sign off tax on behalf of a client. A qualified accountant is trained and regulated by a professional body and the must have a practising certificate in order to run their own business.
A book keeper prepares accounts ready for an accountant to produce a set of final accounts, nb an accountant may also do this themselves.
